A Group Child Care Center is defined by Wisconsin DHFS as "a facility where a person for less than 24 hours per day provides care and supervision for 9 or more children who are not related to the provider." (HFS46.03(13) in licensing rules book) The following information lists the course title of the required courses for each position in a group child care center.
Assistant Child Care Teacher: An assistant child care teacher works under the supervision of a child care teacher with a group of children. The required courses for certification are:
- Introduction to the Child Care Profession
- Fundamentals of Infant & Toddler Care (if working with children under 2 years of age)
- School-Age Assistant Child Care Worker (if working with school-age children)
Child Care Teacher: The child care teacher plans, implements and supervises the daily activities for a group of children. The required courses for certification are:
- Introduction to the Child Care Profession
- Skills & Strategies for the Child Care Teacher
- Fundamentals of Infant & Toddler Care (if working with children under 2 years of age)
Center Director: For a facility licensed to serve up to 50 children, a Center Director must have 2 non-credit department-approved courses in early childhood education. (Table 46.05-A in licensing rule book) These may include:
- Introduction to the Child Care Profession
- Skills & Strategies for the Child Care Teacher
- Center Director
- Center Administrator
Center Director: For a facility licensed to serve 51 or more children, a Center Director must have 4 non-credit department-approved courses in early childhood education. (Table 46.05-B in licensing rule book) These may include:
- Introduction to the Child Care Profession
- Skills & Strategies for the Child Care Teacher
- Center Director
- Center Administrator
